Sorry to jump in on this thread... But just wanted to add were doing a similar scheme to the OP and our developer also insisted we use a solicitor from their "panel". Its a panel of 3 solicitors and we can pick which one want. I argued it as i have a very good solicitor that I would have preferred to use but it was basically if you want the house you have to use one of ours, end of.
Im not saying if youre prepared to walk away they wont give in, but then you risk losing the house.0 -
Which berk? It's in a contract. Surely the issue is with the person who failed to point this out to me before I signed a contract?
Err...the one who told you that would have to remain with the Halifax for twenty-five years, I thought that was obvious. Perhaps you ought to try suing them for poor advice instead.
I use solicitors all the time, they don't give me financial advice though. I think you need to go get yourself another advisor, this one isn't any good.Have you ever used a solicitor? Are they a good one? You'd recommend them to your best friend? If not, you shouldn't use them. If they are, then I imagine they'd point out something as fundamental as tying yourself into ONE lender. But, stupid me, like you said, I didn't pay for another solicitor to check it all out, and for another one to check all THAT out, and so on....The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
You have had many answers, they have mostly come to the same conclusion; you have no chance.
Answers as to whether there is any mileage in going after the solicitor or the sales rep? Or answers to whether or not I should have rented, procreated, sold the house two years ago, the list goes on.....
Lots of "advice" only useful with hindsight or the use of a time machine.0 -

That is the reason people get drawn in, they think they are losing something. How can you lose something you do not own.0 -

I am going to presume that part of the offer is free legal. You are quite at liberty to take advice from another solicitor, at your own expense.Sorry to jump in on this thread... Nobody told me. That's the point I'm making. I found out two years later that it was all part of the shared ownership contract but NOBODY pointed it out to me.
I have a perfectly good, very competent, very informative solicitor, thank you very much. Unfortunately, I wasn't allowed to use my own solicitor for buying the house (as I've already mentioned a dozen times) and didn't feel it necessary to pay for a second and third to do their donkey work (as I've mentioned in answer to your previous post, but which you fail to further comment on - as I'm sure you realise it was stupid advice).0 -

Nope. Someone else who misses the point. If anything I'm implying that posters on here are giving the wrong advice. Advice that isn't needed - because I know all this already, AND it wasn't asked for, AND it's all useless without a time machine.0
