  • Hiya Lillian, that hungry baby thread you read was started by me! just wanted to say i did change him over to the hungry baby and it didnt make a difference to how he was feeding.

in the end i just went with the flow and fed on demand - which i hated because i like routine and i hated wasting so much formula. hewas the exact same as your baby taking completely different amounts every time.

at around 6 weeks my son just sort of got himself into a routine which was fab. he started taking roughly the same amount at each feed and wanted fed exactly every 3 hours. however there will still be the odd occasion when he doesnt finish a bottle, just must not be in the mood for it i guess? then when he starts draining bottles and still seems hungry i will give it a while then up him an oz and see if he takes it all. if not il wait a couple of days and try again. he is 18 wks and now up to 7oz. i completely understand where you are coming from, it is frustrating not knowing if you are feeding enough/too much. but i do think its all trial and error and somtimes just going with the flow. your baby will get there in the end :)

II had trouble breastfeeding and it ended up with DS being 'starved' the first day he was born.
Baby should only need a few teaspoons of colostrum in the first day or two.
  • I personally don't listen to what health visitors tell you or doctors, I was breastfeeding my daughter and because her weight wasn't on the red line in the little red book they told me to stop breastfeeding and bottle, I did this then went to a breastfeeding group as I felt low and incapable of feeding her, they told me the little red book is for bottle fed babies and not breastfed, I've currently got 4 weeks left before having my second baby. & Will be breastfeeding :)

I made up for my daughter 5oz bottles and gave them when i felt she was hungry, she was happy with this. Just do what you feel maybe try to leave out the feed that makes him sick at 10pm and give him it to him later on. Hope this helps :)
  • :) try not to worry im sure he will be fine maybe try hungry the milk for sensitive tumms i cant remeber what its called but that may calm him or maybe the hungry baby milk it may fill him more and not want as much in volume i gave both of mine hungry baby and they were really settled on it after screaming for bottles constantly hope this is some help
