Finished IVA

Options
Hi All,

This is a great site with lots of useful information but I was hoping someone might be able to help me with a question.

I paid my last payment on my IVA on March 10th last year (hoorah!!) and I know that it takes 12 months before I can start to build my credit rating back up.

I recently applied for a job and got turned down when they credit checked me., Despite me telling them about the IVA and them insisting it wouldn't be an issue!! I was half expecting it so wasn't too annoyed but the thing that has bothered me is that they said I hadn't been out of the IVA long enough and it was still a current problem for me. The credit check they ran showed that the IVA was only marked down as complete in June 2010 when in actual fact I finished paying in March 2010.

Is this normal? I'd have though that my records would have been back dated to show that I was debt free in March, regardless of how long the paperwork took to be processed.

I know this was a contributing factor in me not getting the job and want to know if I'm justified in tearing a strip off the company that dealt with my IVA as I have to wait a further 3 months before I can start rebuilding!

Any help would be appreciated.

  • The date on your completion certificate is the offical date your IVA completed, not when your last payment was.

I finished paying on 1st February 2010 but my completion certificate shows July 2010 and my credit file is August 2010.

Its a bit harsh you getting turned down for a job on the basis of your credit file, unless you where applying for a bank or something like that.

If you do a search on your credit file yourself to see what other nastys are on there and maybe take this to the company along with your completion documents, maybe they will change their mind.

I had 3 companies on my credit file still showing as defaulted, but on my completion certificate, it clearly shows as them being paid up.

    Hope you get it sorted.
