Doc Martens Split Sole

Apologies if this seems trivial. I bought a pair of DMs in mid January last year, but very rarely wore them until about 3 months ago when my other main pair wore through on the sole.
Anyway, I've just noticed that the newer boots have split for about 4 inches along the instep, which surely must be a manufacturing quality fault. I'm waiting to hear back from the retailer, but suspect they'll use the fact they're about 54 weeks old as a get-out.
I guess I'm just disappointed with DM generally, despite having 4 pairs, as the soles do tend to wear through quickly anyway and I'm not too impressed with the other "higher-quality" English made pair I bought recently. I think the £62 resoling fee at Timpsons is a joke, as well.
Any clues where I stand? Should I try DM themselves if the retailer isn't interested?

Not in my experience. I love DM shoes as I have wide feet and they are so comfortable.paddyrg wrote:http://www.drmartensforlife.com/the-...our-guarantee/

 I really must learn to read the leaflets that come with them. I didn't know they came with this gaurantee :rotfl:“That old law about 'an eye for an eye' leaves everybody blind. The time is always right to do the right thing.”0 -
That warranty does look good. Personally I tend to wear army surplus boots, they are less comfy but boy are they rugged :-D. Alas the UK manufacturer looks like he'll close down as the MoD has to buy cheaper boots from overseas to save cash, so if you do like your British Army (or my current favourite - RAF) boots, buy now!0

Unfortunately the for-life guarantee only applies to a small number of boots or shoes bought relatively expensively directly from DM, and naturally not the ones I bought. The ones with the split sole are the Paratrooper style which cost £110 and have a different shaped sole unit, so they're not your cheaper standard boots. Given the price of resoling, the for-life ones would be a good buy if you like the styles on offer, but they don't do the 10-holer ones that I prefer.0
