  • Were you all on the same IP when you wrote the reviews? (ie at work)?

No. One was posted from a work internet connection, and the other was done from the hotel.
It'd be interesting to see what the OP's review said.

"Advertised as a four star hotel, but in my opinion it is closer to a 2 star establishment.
Whilst the rooms themselves are spacious enough, the decor and fittings are looking very tired and could certainly do with renewing.
It is also one of the only hotels I've stayed in that doesn't provide any tea/coffee making facilities in the rooms.

I was staying on a room and breakfast deal, but after sampling the breakfast for a couple of days, I starting paying for this at a restaurant nearby.
The "hot" buffet was anything but hot. The food was put into the serving containers whilst cold, and then small warming candles put under it to heat it up, which didn't do the job.

The location of the hotel is ideal, being right in the centre of the eating/nightlife part of town, so there is plenty to do in the evenings and weekends and the hotel staff are generally very friendly.
There is also a health club/gym which is fairly well equipped and is free to use for hotel guests (apart from a small charge for the sauna).

All in all I would say that if you want a hotel in this part of the island and don't mind a "no frills" place, then stay here. Just don't expect 4* facilities."

I also look at many website reviews before booking hotel rooms, and think that I can tell which one are genuine and which are not.
The reviews for this particular hotel were about 70% good, 30% negative.
If I was given the option, I wouldn't have chosen to stay there as there are plenty of alternatives within a couple of miles.

Here is a negative review I posted.

Stayed here last week in September and to be honest I was bitterly disappointed. This is the 4th AI hotel we have stayed in and it was by far the worst. The room was OK, pretty basic but I expected that. The entertainment at night was very poor but again I expected that after reading some of the reviews. What really disappointed me was the food, it was not good at all. Sometimes it was hot and sometimes cold, you honestly did not know what you were getting from one mealtime to the next. There was hardly any variety with the fish dishes, it was all white fish in some type of sauce, there was never any other type of seafood on offer. The show cooking consisted of a very uninterested cook? Dishing out processed meats, burgers or cold pasta, there was never any meat being carved off the bone like I have witnessed in other AI establishments. One morning there was NO EGGS at all, no fried, scrambled or boiled, zilch. Other mornings if you wanted to have a fried egg you had to queue whilst these were cooked, usually 3 at a time in one frying pan, in the end I could not be bothered. The main bar area at night resembled the waiting lounge at an airport, no character, no ambience just nothing at all, also you usually had to join a queue for your drinks, it was just like being in line for school dinners. The cola they used was horrible definitely was not Coke or Pepsi.. We even checked to see whether we could get a flight home early but unfortunately we could not, this being the first time in over 30 years that I wanted to end my holiday early. This definitely a hotel I will not be visiting again any time in the future.

Good review, but TA post nearly all reviews, good, bad, malicious and self-promotion.
Your's reminds me why I never go anywhere near any AI stalags.
