citroen xsara picasso crankshaft pully noise
hello if anyone can help id be greatfull basiclly i have got a citroen xsara picasso 2.0 hdi 2002, it had cambelt replaced sometime last year but recently i have a ticking noise that comes from the crankshaft pully area the faster i rev the quicker it gets, i have read that the pullys are common faults on these especially after belt change, as the pullys are seperate on these ie 1 for auxilary belt and 1 for cambelt i have been told by a mechanic that its possible to weld the two pullys together and that he has done it many times and its a cheaper option to do this. im all for the cheaper option but not if its going to cause any problems so i just wonderd if anyone else has heard of this fix and if so is it worth it. oh sorry my car is xsara picasso 2.0 hdi 2002

It'll more than likely be the Crankshaft Pulley starting to break up..... £100ish from Peugeot *Same as Citroen HDi" for supposedly upgraded one... Never tackled one but cant see it being hard to do.0

As above buy a new pulley it sounds like the rubber damping is starting to break up,don't get them welded together as that will be a bigger job as cambelt will need to come off, also male belt change a pig of a job.
After reading again I think they mean welding the 2 sections of pulley together thus getting rid of the damping capabilities and not the pulley to sprocket as first thought.0 -

Thats How I understood it... Cant picture the HDI pulleys off top of my head.. Pulley-Rubber-Pulley kinda thing?... I'd replace the pulley personally... GSF etc should be cheaper than Dealers.0 -

The main centre section bolts to crank and holds sprocket on then the outer poly v drive part is rubber mounted to inner section.
By welding together I would imagine it would cause vibrations not only because rubber now gone but also made pulley out of balance.
Get em off the fleabay for around £60 plus £15-20 for new belt I would imagine 1.5 hours to fit at a guess.0
