As I'm posting from a mobile could someone please recommend a comparison website that is easy to use please? Is it just a case of putting in never readings on the site? Agree about cheapest not always best etc just wanted to get more of an idea. We moved in just over two years ago and have never switched energy supplier, that's all0

Written notice should be given in some form. However, with British Gas it can take at least 3 weeks for something to be delivered to you by post from the date of issue. BG Customer Services advised me to allow at least 10 days for letters to be delivered.
Under the rules of the DD scheme, advance notice should be a minimum of 10 working days plus postal time. (unless otherwise agreed)
If BG use a postal service that they know takes 10 days to get delivered, they should be allowing for this as postal time."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -

Once you've found your cheapest supplier (and make sure it is the cheapest by comparing all the prices in the tariff - tier 1 price and tranche, tier 2, night unit cost if e7, gas costs ) - don't just take their word for it. Also check the cheapest isn't likely to increase prices just after you switch.0 -
The comp site will do all that for you though. No free lunch, and no free laptop

A quick update. We ended up switching to NPOWER as they offered the service a bit cheaper and also we got cashback.
Can someone please tell me what happens to the credit etc with British Gas?

Anyone know?!0

When the account is closed, they will either send you a cheque or if your DD is still active use that to repay the money. I would definitely give them a ring after switching and try and hurry the process along though.0
