Dishwasher not cleaning properly

I have a Neff integrated dishwasher that has never given me any trouble in 5 years. Recently a lot of the dishes, pans and cutlery are coming out looking worse than when they went in!

I've cleaned all of the filters and removable bits and pieces in the dishwasher, I've used a couple of the special dishwasher cleaners and Ive tried soda crystals.

Has anyone else had a similar problem with their dishwasher and if so how did you rectify it. there's no way I'm going back to handwashing!

Thanks

Sarah

  • I assume you've topped up the rinse aid, so suggest running it empty a few times on the hottest wash you can.

Do you live in a hard water area? I am just wondering if the spray bar thingie is clogged with limescale like a shower head?

In addition to that already mentioned - salt, spray bar rotating, the only other thing I can think of is: Are the heating elements functioning properly?
    FREEDOM IS NOT FREE
  • Are spray bars working? can get blocked - we've had sweetcorn/peas blocking the jets and causing the problems you've described!
I'm mad!!!! :rotfl::jand celebrating everyday every year!!!
  • I believe all dishwashers come with an inbuilt water softener, a bit like a small version of the (typically) under-sink devices available for whole house water softening. All these (proper) water softeners use ion exchange resin as the active ingredient. The resin doesn't last for ever, even if you always load the proper amount of salt, which is essential for replenishing the resin. Have you checked the salt level? Or perhaps the resin needs renewal. All the above will produce hard water type effects and poorer cleaning. I hope this helps.

Me too. OT, why can't manufacturers make the spray bars in two sections held together by clips so that you could just open them up and clean them out rather than having to poke about with a skewer and tweezers?
  • I've cleaned out the spray bars, they were not clogged, there were a few bits in there though so that should help. I've got the salt and rinse aid levels topped up and will give it another go on the highest temp. Fingers crossed it will be sorted!!

    If not I'll be back!

    Thanks everyone

When that happened on my dishwasher, I discovered that the basket that held the cutlery had developed larger holes in it, and the odd bit of cutlery was dropping too low down, and stopping the underneath spray from going round.

Sounds to me that the wash pump is blocked or us, if you have checked other MSE,s advice ?

Does it sound as if water is fully hitting all the utensils.

This is happening to me and the moment too, so interested in your suggestions.

I am a little confused (and feeling a little stupid for asking), but I just use a 5in1 tablet... should I be using rinse aid/salts etc aswell?
