We had to get a water fountain when one of ours was diagnosed with FLUTD. It was supposed to encourage him to drink more.
I never really saw him drink from it, but our other cat seemed to often be there lapping away. I think it just depends on the cat.
Ours are happiest when drinking from a muddy puddle outside, no mater how much fresh water I put out for them.
I'd say give it another go, it took at least a week for our one cat to go near it, guess they need time to get used to it.0 -
I've always found my cats are a law unto themselves and what I think is good for them is not what they think, my cats have spent years and years drinking from everywhere but their nice bowl of clean water in the kitchen. Now my only cat left is old and a bit frail she doesn't like to go out in the damp cold weather and is perfectly happy to drink from her bowl... Honestly I wouldn't bother as they don't seem interested..#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

I would agree with the above. However from your post it sounds as though you only put the fountain out for the first time yesterday? So they've not really had much chance to get used to it, I'd leave it a good few days before deciding it's not worth it.
Whatever happens, don't worry about it too much. All you can do is leave the option of fresh water (in whatever form) and if they want it, they'll take it.
It always makes me think of the saying - you can lead a [STRIKE]horse [/STRIKE] cat to water but you can't make it drink lol0 -
I am surprised you were able to 'send it back' if it had been used.:o
I recently bought a CatMate fountain, highly recommended, and it did take several days for me to notice various cats actually drinking from it. Now it gets quite a lot of use, but I am sure they all still prefer a nice muddy puddle outside!0 -
I got the catit one on vets recommendation. My furry babies love it, only took a couple of days for them to get used to it.0

We have 4 of the small round Catit fountains in my immediate family and a couple of friends have one for their cats, too, having seen ours in action. Without exception, the various cats took perhaps a week at most to get used to it but now mine needs refilling at least weekly (and it's got a 3 litre capacity) so someone's drinking from it! I think the slight noise might be a little off-putting for them initially, but it's a gentle bubbling sound that they soon reealise isn't scary. In fact, my boy cat likes to slap his paws in the fountain and make a lovely big puddle on the kitchen floor and he also rugby tackles it from time to time so I get home to find it's migrated into the middle of the floor (as far as the flex allows). I would definitely recommend the fountain.0
