A Will Query?

Can someone please help me with this query?
When someone applies for a copy of a will after probate has been granted is it then that the value of the estate becomes general knowledge? There was some money in a bank account but the actual amounts where not given when the will was written.

Well the person who wrote the will could hardly know how much he/she would exactly have in the bank at the moment of death.
So probably it would just say 'monies'make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
a will may give specific amounts to certain people, such as 'I bequeath £1000 to my friend Martyn Lewis' but this of course would depend on how much money was actually available at the time the will is proved. usually the main beneficiaries get a share of the residual (the amount the estate is worth after all debts etc have been paid).
details of the deceased bank accounts etc are NOT made public - just what the will actually says!0 -
The grant of probate is a public document , as is the will once probate has been granted. The grant of probate will state the amount of the gross and net estates, although it will not reveal the amount which was held in joint accounts.0

I just wondered why you were asking the original question?
As mentioned by purple haze the value of the estate is put on the Probate and shows the Net and Gross Estate. It does not show any details of the assets that make up the figures but certain Government organisations such as DWP etc can ask for a breakdown of the figures. So if the deceased was receiving any form of benefit the DWP will check that the deceased was entitled to this/these and if not they have the legal authority to demand repayment of any amounts overpaid, which has to come out of the estate before any distributions are made.0
