in Credit cards
i have a virgin credit card that i used to pay for £298 eurostar tickets in october 2010.
i got a letter 2 weeks ago saying that virgin have had to debit my card £298 because of a chargback by my bank for a payment made in october
i contacted the bank to find out why, and they told me they havnt made a chargback, if they had they would of recreddited my account with the £298 but checking all my statements this hasnt happened so i beleive the bank are telling the truth.
i have spoken to virgin who said they dont know why the bank have recalled the money, there is nothing they can do about it. they are now looking into it again this is twice that they have investigated it with no answers.
i dont know where i stand, im not paying it off or any interest untill its resolved because its not my problem am i right?
help please

You are wrong. It IS your problem until it has been resolved unfortunately.
Just to make it clear:
you paid your Virgin CC bill from your bank account last October or so
the money disappeared from your bank account and was creditted to your CC
Virgin now say that the payment has been recalled and have redebitted your CC account
Your bank say it hasn't been recalled and have made no adjustments to your account
If that's the case then either Virgin or your bank or both have screwed up.
You are going to have to persist - do it in writing, not on the phone - or at least follow up in writing. Doing nothing is not an option.0 -

im not "not" doing nothing. im on the phone every otherday to chase them up.
your correct. i currently have something else on my card which im paying of so im not not paying the card but i have made it clear to both that they will have to sort the interest out aswell for the mistake,
has anyone else had a similar problem?
the bank have said they wouldnt recall the money unless it was reported as a case of fraud etc and they had good reason to. i havnt told them to do so.0 -
I'd make sure you've got something in writing as well to say why you are not paying. Just having phoned them can make it difficult to prove at a later date that you disputed the debt.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0

They do stuff like this all the time. Fight them right at your credit bureau. Never take the credit card company's bs lying down.0
