need mattress recommendations/help

ok so my bargin bed frame is looking great, just need the gloss paint to dry so i can do the reverse of the head/foot boards, have ordered my gorgeous dd the Tangled (new disney film) duvet cover at her request!! got duvet, pillow and sheets on way too and my mum and dad have offered to buy the mattress-dads adamant she has to have a memory foam one. gotta love my parents-they're amazing!!

where would be best to get a single memory foam mattress from? have looked on ebay, google and found a couple shops. Its the memory foam to base/reflex foam thats confusing me. how much is the supposed 'recommended best' ammount??? she's almost 5 and this bed/mattress needs to last her lol!!!

we just bought a new mattress(for a kingsize bed) after trying numerous ones we ended up opting for pocket sprung with a layer of memory foam. as neither of us were too keen on the fully memory foam ones. i would suggest taking her to a couple of bed shops and letting her try lying on some to see what she(and you) thinks is comfy
  • Memory foam may be too hot for a 5 year old aswell. At that age I wouldn't personally bother with anything like that as the weight of the person is certainly relevant

Our now 6 year old has an medium firm open coil mattress that is nicely padded on top so you cannot feel the springs. Cost less than £100 and we will "upgrade" it when she gets into teenage years for something more like you mention with pocket springs and memory foam. I have slept on it once or twice and even with my weight it felt pretty comfortable

Another vote here for the memory foam with springs. I got a recommendation from on here and it was the cheapest place by far- delivered.

Let me know if you want the details.

    Memory foam with springs vote.

I hated the complete memory foam bed, it was horrid and I only sat me bum on it. Plus they can get too hot.

Birduk, I want the details, I have 2 to buy for my smelly boys!
  • i have memory foam with springs myself-i didnt get a memory foam mattress til i was 29 and had to buy myself a bed as the ex had slept with his new gf in 'ours' shortly after i left!!! gobsmacks me that they want a memory foam one for her lol! must say i do love mine though, everyone who's lay on it says how nice it is.

There is no point whatsoever buying a memory foam mattress for a 5 year old. To start with she wouldn't be heavy enough to benefit from the memory foam (this would also go for pocket springs).

You would be far better off going for a good quality medium open coil sprung mattress.

Can I please have the details? It seems to be a minefield buying a new bed

Tim is good. Shame he can't name names. I have 2 weeks to find a good bed (payday) And there are so many different makes and types. I'm sick of reading about beds now.

OK I know Tim can't name names, but the place that I brought from was excellent- obviously this may be sheer coincidence...... ;)

Oh, it takes out the link!

This is the one I have that I recommended to my mum. She is really really happy with hers as well (mine is 3 years old and still going strong). They do a single version too.....

If anyone wants to know, just ask me and I can send you the link. Not getting paid for this- just know how much of a nightmare it is searching for mattresses when you don't really have a clue!
