About to leave ScottishPower / Price increases letter ... ady advice
Hi,
I'm in the process of moving away from Scottish Power and have just received a letter from them (dated end of Jan) informing me of their price increases applied end Nov 2010, it's a bit late to let me know now.
Anyway, at the bottom of the letter it says if I decide to move to a different supplier within 20 days of 'the date of this letter' the price increases will not apply. This suggests SP won't be charging me the increased prices through December & January provided my move to the new supplier is within the next 20 days.
I suspect the letter is just badly worded (or should have been sent earlier) ... would it be a waste of time contacting Scottish Power to try to get my final bill reduced?

I think it actually says you have the right to end the contract, and the 20 days relates to the period you can notify them within
. There is then a further 15 days allowed (from that notice being given)for the new supplier to start the transfer process.
As you presumably never gave any notice to Scottish Power, they are entitled to charge you the prices notified until the transfer takes place."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Go on their website and check the actual old and new rates.
I'm on saver 10 and discovered the gas price actually went down!0 -

Seems pretty clear to me. Notify them you are leaving within 20 days of you getting notification of the increase, and your final bill will be at the old rates. They can't say it more clearly imv.
If you are within 20 days of receiving the notificatioin (which you say you are), ring SP and tell them you're going to a different supplier due to the increase, and please make final bill at old rates. They'll just make a note on your records that they have received the required notification.
Ime, the final bill will still be at the new rates (because it's all computer generated. You then ring SP again, tell them you have a right to have the final bill at the pre-increase rates, they'll look at your notes, and send you a replacement (correct) bill at the old rates. My (final) final bill was hand written as I recall, and correct, after going through all that 18 months ago.0 -
Graham,
Thanks for the advice. I called SP yesterday and have confirmed my right to cancel. After checking with someone else the lady said that the price increase won't be applied (provided I move to another supplier in the next 15 days, which I will because I'm already moving).
I'll keep an eye on the final bill when it arrives to make sure that I'm charge the pre-increase prices on usage since November.
Cheers!0 -
I received the same, what is the point in telling me in Feb 2011 that they was increasing prices in Nov 20100

Because if they don't give you the notice before the 65 working days expire, they would not be able to charge it."Now to trolling as a concept. .... I got my amended bills this week, all usage (up to my leaving date mid February) was billed before 25th November at 'old' prices.
I'm not really sure if I saved much (if anything) as the old/new price comparisons don't make much sense, but I do feel as though I made a point.0
