How much should i spend on food family of 7?

Trying to spend less on food..so how much should i spend roughly a month on food
There is 2 adults and 5 children (including 2 under 4) so they don't eat much..also 4 children have packed lunches every day..
i am trying to spend £10 a day for every one...

Does £280 a month seem good...
please let me know what you think...
Also any cheap things i can feed the kids would be nice...

Thanks alot...

  • I would say that £280 a month is really good, you should post this questions on the Old Style Money Saving board as they are great ober there at reducing peoples food shops.

I’m back and more determined than ever!!!!!

You're doing brilliantly if you're only spending £280 a month! We're a family of 3 (one under 5) and I spend approx £200 for us!

I have friends who have 2 adults, 2 kids (both under 5) who spend £400.

ETA: you should try to meal plan, it's cut our food bill quite a lot as you only buy what you need for the week. Meals like shepherd's pie, spag bol, tuna pasta bake go down well in this house and are fairly cheap. We shop in Aldi quite often, so changing supermarket would be good.

    Surely £280 a month doesn't include nappies?

i think it all depend's on what foods you like, portion size etc. but £280 for a fmaily of 7 is fantastic. i spend around £200 for a family of 5 and were all big eaters, lol. but i do cook from scratch , and bake alot of nice goodies.

I must be doing something wrong!

Family of 5, 2 adults, one hungry teen and a 6 and 7 yr old and we spend £400 per month! But then we do buy brands, and down to allergies there are some dierty requirements which mean it's hard to finder cheaper suitable products!

I would be over the moon if I could get my bill down to £350 a month!
