Nail brush and warm soapy or shampoo-y water? Just be careful and make sure they're absolutley dry before plugging them back in! Don't use too much water either and ensure no water enters them. (I shook the water from the nail brush a few times before gently scrubbing - I also found that by holding them plate end down, what water there was, ran away from anything electrical)
IT GOES WITHOUT SAYING THAT BEFORE ATTEMPTING THIS, THEY MUST BE COLD AND UNPLUGGED!!!
Sorry for shouting that last bit but you never know...0 -
I use a bit of damp cotton wool and some shampoo (I use Lush solid sampoo which makes it easier) and generally rub it until it's clean and then wipe it dry (and leave it to dry properly for a good long time before you turn them on again, just in case) it works really well for me.Comping, freebieing and trying to pay the mortgage off early!0

the stuff on my straighteners is brown and appears to be well baked on..........and nothing i have tried will budge it...gggrrr0

I haven't had this problem with mine yet so this is not a tried and tested tip, but have you thought about using one of those products sold for cleaning the sole-plate of irons? I would have thought the principle would be the same.0

I chipped it off with my nails when they were cold then turned them on and wiped with a damp cloth while warm - you have to be quick though, they heat up so fastBulletproof0
