Telephone Preference Service

hello,

I am considering registering to TPS to reduce the cold calls that I receive.

someone told me that this would also block any calls made from a switchboard, for example hospital/doctors/dentist/work, is this true?

I thought it just removed your phone number from marketing lists.

thanks in advance

It's a waste of time imho,I am registered with the TPS but I still get marketing & junk calls originating in the UK,And to pursue who ever calls you is nearly impossible as the details the TPS require in order to chase the marketers aren't often available.

It does not block any calls at all. It is a list of the numbers of those who have registered and firms are supposed to check that list and not cold call any numbers on it.

In other words, the cold callers are supposed to comply, it is not an electronic call blocker.

Overseas call centres (unless working on behalf of UK companies) don't have to check though.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. • thank you both for your speedy replies!

I thought it was a list rather than a block, but someone put doubts in my mind.

I will sign up, even if it doesn't stop a lot, some would be useful

    much appreciated

I signed up a couple of years back and have only had one cold call since.

The woman was most apologetic and I believe that it was a genuine mistake.

I'd definitely recommend this and the mail preference service as well.
There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.
  • Wwe've been signed up for a couple of years and still get calls.
When I put anonymous call block on the school psychologist couldn't get through so I had to take it off and so we're back to getting cold calls again now.

They were confusing TPS - an administrative service - with Anonymous Call Reject which is an exchange facility to block anonymous calls. It does not block calls from switchboards - it blocks calls where the number is withheld, which is often from callers with switchboards as it happens.

That's just lazy comms management. The supplier should have explained how the switchboard can be programmed to send its main number regardless of which outgoing line the user picks up when dialling 9 for an outside line (as I had to do for my GPs' Surgery a while back).

I find little works, you get on tps it may stop some calls but doesn't stop international calls or those you may be customers of ie BT

I find only way is to use the device called truecall abet it costs but it stops every call I get I just got one 15 minutes ago from

Unrecognised caller - Hung up at whisper 00:00:0608000280195[Freephone Call] from truecall logs

Only reason I knew was red light on unit flashing

I can always record conversations (£25 cost)with sd card and now use us for alarm calls for free

According to whocallsme, that number is Affinion International http://www.affinioninternational.com/.

They appear to have access to Debenhams cardholder lists and they call pushing card protection products and similar.

Affinion's policy to get removed from their database is here: http://www.affinioninternational.com/privacy.html#4 but, of course, that does not exempt them from TPS.
