Pay Rent off Credit Card?

Just wondering - I'm seeing all these deals based on spending big money on cards and paying it off in full. I've never actually had a credit card, but I was wondering - would I be able to use it to deposit money in my landlord's bank account, and then pay the money back into my credit card by DD to be within the 0%?

Also, do the 'popular' cards (tesco, amex) have annual fees?

Thx. :D

No you cannot use a credit card in this way. Even if you could it would be a cash advance with a fee and interest to pay - 0% deals do not apply to cash advances.

Unless your landlord actually takes credit cards.....
  • Ah, I see. Thanks! Might just apply for the Tesco card then; don't spend enough to make a huge profit on the others!
  • Halifax is spend £300 get £5 cashback every month?
  • Oh. I remember seeing that somewhere, but for some reason I overlooked it!
  • I overlooked because I don't have the necessary Halifax account, and don't want to switch over from RBS (or open my 4th account!).

The Reward account doesn't require a 'switch'...merely £1K cycled through it each month (a same day in/out transfer will suffice).

Your reluctance to open a "4th account" could cost you £120 a year...£5 per month each for the current account and credit card.

    Still don't want to?

Ah, didn't realise I could take the money out again and reuse it! Thanks.

If I don't pay in the £1000, there's no penalties, right?

No penalties you just don't get your £5 reward for that month
  • 'To apply for the Halifax Rewards Clarity Credit Card, you must have a current account with us into which you pay £1,000 or more each month, or an Ultimate Reward Current Account.'

I don't think I'll be eligible. I'm also a student, so even though I get a good stipend, as a 'wage' I only get £6,000pa, which I'm sure won't go far in this application!
