Changing student account with just months to go

Options
I want to open up a student account with Lloyds TSB. I don't need a large overdraft and I hope to convert it to a graduate account when I do graduate. This is in July. With only 6 months until this, would Lloyds reject me for a student account? Their website is rather vague.

    From the T&Cs here:
"To have a Student Account you must be 17 or over, be resident in the UK for at least three years and be studying for (or have applied for a place on) a full time course that lasts for a minimum of two years or be on a one year access course leading onto a full time degree."

The "lasts for a minimum of two years" part isn't very clear. They could be referring to the course in general or how long you have to be studying it for from opening. I think it's the former though, so you should be eligible. Best to ring and confirm.

I think that they are referring to the course in general, best thing to do in my opinion is go in, and play dumb, you want to open a student account, show them the info and if they ask the question answer it, otherwise dont say anything. Whats the worse they can do?, they fight for us students and our business, so I cant see them full on rejecting you :)

Yeah. I saw that and thought it was quite vague. I think you might have the right idea about going in and playing dumb! I will be transferring a large amount over initially. (I don't have to tell them that I'll be withdrawing it soon after ;)) so they may see that and be more willing.
  • I tried to open a Lloyds student account a couple of weeks ago.

they said no, as apparently they only have X amount of student accounts to give out each academic year, and apparently they are all allocated by Oct/nov time each year. This wasn't branch specific, this apparently is nationwide across Lloyds.

I wouldn't waste your time - I was in the branch for about 20mins while they found out for sure. try another bank - Lloyds told me this practice is particular to them and not usual for other banks.
