She was not permitted into the house before exchange and she was not supposed to have seen it this week. Can't compare specifications until meeting. There is a change to room width caused by a change of stair design. Unfortunately her solicitor is the one recommended by the developer -looking for another one now.
Sorry, but who in their right mind would exchange on a property that "they were not allowed to go into"?0 -
Most glossy brochures typically have small print along lines of "subject to change" and possibly 'details herein do not constitute any part of an agreement"
Buyer beware is the key!0 -
Buyer remorse as other properties on the site have been reduced by £5k?0

Wow.
I don't even let my nieces have those £5 surprise packets from Claire's because I don't know what's in them. I'd rather give them £5 each and let them choose their own stuff.
Ditto a house, really. I'd rather take my money and go buy something I can check out before handing over the cash.0 -
It is strange the way people will take all sorts of precautions before commiting to a 3 quid bit of tat on ebay, but happily sign away possibly hundreds of thousands on a house without even confirming the size of the place. I just do not understand, but I may be a bit thick.0

When you are a first time buyer I think it's a mix of excitement and naivety. As you get older you realise that a) people lie, b) you have to look out for yourself and c) shiny things can hide a multitude of sins.0 -
Thanks for the helpful suggestions. Hindsight is wonderful but as Gwhiz said it's easy to get carried away as a first time buyer. (I had been warned to check windows opened. Did I? No. Did they open? No. And I was about to learn a lot about leasehold). A solicitor is going to take a look at the paperwork and plan prior to the meeting. I'm not optimistic but hoped that there may be options for those buying unbuilt property.0
