Where do you buy rosewater from then?

I thought I was being really clever cos Tesco had a BOGOF on rose water and it was cheap to start of with. Should have known better than to buy something new when home shopping. When it arrived (in a bottle that made it look like shampoo) it was really really weak, like it had been diluted lots in water. It said on the side for use in religious ceremonies. This was not in the least like the rose water my daughter has a bottle of - hers tastes so strong it's like alcohol:D

However.... I really do want to make some TD so..... has anyone used this rosewater with success? Any suggestions? I did think about using it as the liquid part in the begining instead of just water.

Phew! The TD was a complete success. It was quite hard going stirring in the sugar syrup to the gloopy mix and then when that was done it had to simmer for about 1 hour. That was when I had a little bit of trouble. It caught a bit on the bottom, but not disastrous. Although the recipe said to stir frequently, which I did, still managed to get a few darker bits going through the TD but when the colouring was added couldn't see them too much and now that its chopped up and covered in icing sugar you wouldn't know any different. I'm the only one in my family that likes TD and I've got LOADS, so I'm going to cover half in chocolate and take some into work.

It was really satisfying to make and if anyone is making it for presents I would imagine friends and family would be most impressed that it was homemade.

Dolly Day Dream: My Rosewater was watery.... well it looked just like water actually. I thought it would have the consistency of glycerine. The recipe called for 1 & half tbs. I put 2 in but think it would have been better with 3 or 4. But it still tasted of TD - IYKWIM :rotfl:

A lot of Asian shops sell it, also Orange flower Water and Kewra Water (another scented/flavoured water).

    Dolly Daydream:

Older recipes often specify triple distilled rosewater for cooking; I think that most makes are this as standard nowadays but it sounds as though you were unfortunate enough to get one of the few that isn't. I would consider diluting it a little and using it as an ironing spray, or possiby using it neat as a room spray. I honestly don't think that it is going to be much use for the TD.

Help! Something has gone drastically wrong with the TD. It's the one coated in icing sugar. The sugar has melted and the TD is now sort of wet and sticky. What have I done wrong? I made it Saturday evening, and packed it into tupperware containers on Sunday. The chocolate covered TD is fine.

Any help would be appreciated because I want to make some more a little nearer Christmas xx

I've just re-read the recipe and it says to store the TD between layers of waxed paper in an airtight container. Do you think if I did this it would stop the icing sugar melting?

And where do I buy waxed paper from?

You can buy waxed paper in any of the supermarkets - will be with the tinfoil. Is greaseproof paper not the same thing?

Not sure about storage, but we bought some fresh stuff over in Cyprus a few months ago, and were advised to keep it in the fridge. It kept just fine, so you could maybe give that a try.

I wish I didn't keep coming across this thread. Mr TM came back from Turkey last week with LOTS of TD. I wasn't going to eat any tonight ..... but as the box is just ... there

    I keep pinching a bit.

It's the one with nuts in and it's gorg. I also have some with condensed milk I think, in it - as it has a squishy white centre

I made LOADS at the weekend, but it's now all gone. Where? I'm the only one that likes TD in my house. Could I really.......? It's not possible! Surely someone has crept into my house and eaten some?

Now TD and condensed milk? Mmmmmmm
