Change of name
Hello
I have been looking at changing my name for a while but don't know what to.Have been looking around the net and seen various posts on sites about getting a new credit file.Is this actually possible ? As to menit looks as simple as changing your name via deed poll then sending the certificate to dvla and the passport office so u have official documents and bingo you got a new identity to start your credit file from scratch but when applying for a new account you use your name but don't declare any previous ones ?

Urban myth. In actual fact, you change your name by deed poll, and the CRAs update your credit file with your new name. Nice try though.Best Regards

How do the cra know tho if u don't tell them ? Just update your passport and dvla so you have official documents to get a new account in your new name without declaring your old name and starting fresh ?0

It's not about you telling them or not. Things like deed polls and the electoral register are fed into the CRAs automatically whether you choose to tell them or not. And the CRAs have a legal obligation to ensure all information is accurate and up to date.Best Regards

if you get a copy of your credit report (£2, or by subscribing to one of the 3 credit agencies sites) you'll see the 'aliases' section. and also a description of where the info comes from....
you'd be amazed at how much information is shared between companies you have attachments to and the credit agencies - otherwise it'd be oh so easy for everyone to do what you're suggesting you want to try to do.
as said above by zppp, changing your name wont get you out of debt from, and i'm purely guessing here; buying a corsa/astra/vectra/zafira/monaro vxr and not being able to afford it.0 -
This is something I've wondered about - although, not for the same reason. As I explain in my MH thread, my parents moved out when I was young, prior to that, my Mum moved out when I was 14 and I just lived with my Aunt (My transgendered Dad - so a complete different name to me). I wanted to change my name to her surname - mostly out of immature bitterness towards my Mum, so I went to the local solicitor and they agreed to do a 'Statutory Declaration', that's as far as it ever went. I didn't change my passport, didn't use it other than for day to day, work purposes. I dropped the name after my Aunt/Dad also abandoned me. The MH letter I've got has come up under that name although, that alias doesn't show up on my credit file at all.0

So you change your name and you apply for credit - if the CRA'S have not been told about your previous name you will have no history - therefore you will be turned down because of that - catch 22.
You will be caught out.0 -
Good grief. Can people really think it is that simple?0

You could change your name, but I guess you have to wait a few years and move house before starting your new credit history.0

Could just flee to Panama or somewhere similar.
