I'd like to know that too and would have done what rozmister suggested - can't beat a crumble :D

Hi there. I had decided on rhubarb crumble and custard and had all my ingredients bought and ready when I discovered that the lady doing the other choice was doing plum crumble and custard. To avoid two custardy puddings, and two stewed fruit options, I've decided to do bannoffee pie on the basis that it is a self contained pud and quite different to a crumble, and also it was easy to scale up the recipe to the correct size, and make it in a large baking tray. Hope it goes down well. Thank you for all your suggestions. Sorry not to end up using any of them!

Was going to suggest big bowls of trifle. I do it the more traditional way using sliced jam swiss roll, fruit, jelly and custard with cream for pouring. Always seems to go down well, especially with men!
  • Hi
I was helping at a homeless shelter over the Christmas period, and escorted a few of the guests into town to pick up their various medications. En route, we had to stop at various take-away shops, as they were not particularly enjoying the food available at the shelter (it was lovely, just not to their taste), so I would definately keep it simple. The microwaveable self saucing chocolate pudding is very easy, if of course you have access to a microwave, and easily a winner to make and eat. HTH

Just to report back, the bannoffee pie was a sell out! Lots of comments about how much it was enjoyed, and lots of people coming back for second and third helpings! And it wasn't that difficult to make. Result!
  • Oh congratulations, I'm glad it went down well.

I suppose its the kind of thing you'd pine for if you weren't able to have it, a luxury item.

How kind of you, I hope you feel suitably pleased!
