Obligation to check a credit card transaction

Hi all
Having a dispute with an insurer. Basically, for whatever reason, a premium I paid in August 2010 has just shown up at their end as invalid. Upon discovering this, the insurer wrote to me and within a week cancelled my policy. As I was on holiday at this time, I couldn't deal with it. I am now being asked for £132 to settle a premium of £108 just 4 months in... which I didn't even ask to cancel!
Anyway, key question which this issue may hinge on - am I under an obligation (as they say) to check if a transaction has gone through? I suspect this is not true but I am struggling to find a definitive opinion (or proof I am right...).

Anyway, I would do everything you can to get this re-instated with your insurer.
Beg if you have to.
The reason I say that is that you will have to declare forever that you have had insurance cancelled (on all insurance) and having it cancelled for non-payment will put up your premiums (and could result in refusal) for the rest of your life (there is no time limit).
Argue that you weren't advised and were also on holiday etc. and beg if you have to in order to get it re-instated.
Why was it invalid? and why didn't you notice you hadn't paid? do you not check your statements?
I don't know the answer legally, but yes it's your obligation to pay for your insurance.0 -
Please take lisaloo's advice...ask the insurance co. what it would take to reinstate the insurance or this could 'follow' you forever.0

I wouldn't be declaring that I'd had insurance cancelled, for this particular reason...0

They normally ask if you've been refused insurance - not whether it's been cancelled - two completely different scenarios in my mind.My posts are my own opinions based on my experiences and info gathered from sites such as this.
