There is normally hidden data in the photo file that says "model, make, exposure etc"

Photographs must be taken using a Nikon camera. The metadata of all submissions will be checked to verify. Any images with no metadata, or metadata from a non Nikon camera, will be disqualified. ~ Yep they can tell

End date is 14/02 and this month's subject is texture. One of the photos this month is of a broom, still with the price label stuck on it

That's a bit grumpy... it's not like they're expecting you to buy a new Nikon camera in order to enter...
