A potential consequence of the late GM Card

I have continuously had a GM Card for over 15 years and in 1997 as a "valued customer", I accepted from them [as no doubt did many others] £1,000 of free, basic accidental death and disablement insurance underwritten by Hamilton Insurance. The cover would cease if I closed my GM account, which I have not, or by the Policyholder [GM Card] writing to terminate it. Has anyone received such a letter, I haven't?
This policy may have bitten the dust on or after 23 January 2011, because, unless each policy was subject to a one-off premuim payment at inception, any annual premium payable by GM Card will no doubt cease and with it the continuation of cover. Additionally, per Monty Python's parrot, it is now a late card and arguably the closing on my GM account by them, not me, may be implied termination. Any comments on these alternatives would be welcomed.

For a few pennies a month you could get much better value.
I know this was for free but IMO is not worth fighting for.0 -

I'd forgotten about the "free" insurance - not worth worrying about now!!0 -
I think that that insurance only lasted for 10 years anyway so it ran out 4 years ago.0
