e-on Price Protection, worth it ?

Hi, i'm after some advice please. I'm with e-on at the moment on the price protection R1 plan which keeps prices below a certain amount if the normal prices rise. It's due to end and e-on have stated that in March they will automatically change me onto the new price protection plan. I'm trying to work out of i've actually saved any money by being on the plan for the last 18months, but I can't find what e-on charge per unit rate over the last year or so, to work it all out. I'm trying to save money where I can as our gas and elec bill is outrageous (got a large home). How do I work out if i've actually saved anything ?

I have all the figures of what they are charging me now, but don't know what it would have cost me if I had been on the standard tariff. Very confused ! Thanks.

If you're happy to stay with Eon, do online billing and switch to Save Online 5, not a capped deal, but Eon's cheapest tariff, and no R1 has saved you no money. The new capped deal til 2014 is 7% dearer than the standard eon tariff that will come into effect 4-2-11. If you had been on the Eon standard tariff since 1-10-9 to 28-2-11 you would have saved about 5-7% (possibly a tad more, maybe upto 10%) against total paid for PPR1.

Thanks Airmike23. Its so hard to work out. I'l have a look at the Save Online 5. Is this where you input your meeting readings every month so you are paying acurately every month ?
  • Don't have to submit reads monthly (it is encouraged tho, but no discount or stipulation as part of tariff terms) but are able to and will get an up to date balance when reads submitted actual cost on reads vs payments made by DD so will show if in cr or dr on the account, via the website once reads submitted can request a bill to be produced outside of normal quarterly schedule, but Save Online 5 is still, as standard, a monthly direct debit, quarterly statement tariff, with payments reviewed quarterly at statement production (payment adequecy) based on cr or dr on account.

Thanks for that. I was on the website trying to find more info out, but it's very vague. I input my yearly KWH figures into a compare website and EDF came up cheapest with their online tariff, but again it wasn't clear whether I could input monthly figures and get a monthly bill. Why is this so hard to get ? I'd rather pay for what i'm using than do an average over the year !

Ohh thanks I have just switched to this, (save online 5) as I was already an online customer and was just going to switch to direct debit payments.
Debt free since July 2013! Woo hoo! The bank actually laughed when I said I have come in to cancel my overdraft.
