connecting a laptop up to a tv?

İ am not very technically literate so be patient with me!
İ live abroad and would like to somehow port myself back to the uk by getting an ip address there so i can watch English tv on my new big screen telly that has usb connector --i have a pc in the house that my wife watches films on but i am considering getting a new laptop and wonder if i could do this on a wireless system with a normal laptop? or just connecting the pc with a long cable?--see i am not very litterate!!!---i do need a laptop for my daughter's happiness!

You should be able to connect using a VGA to Component Cable.
