Hiya,

I brought a domain 2 years ago and then set up a website with MR site.

They wouldnt let me have the domain name back after my subscription out so its been out of action for a year, now it ran out yesterday but is not available to buy yet, Do you have any idea how long it will take for the domain to be on the market again?

I really need to get a basic webpage up asap after recent press coverage.

Who owns the domain you or MR site? is it a .uk or a .com?

It can take several months for a domain to be released from simple lapse of registation, it can be re registered over coming months the registration authority will send out reminders etc.
I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.

    just found this online:http://www.nominet.org.uk/registrants/keepyour.co.uk/howtorenew/

    Renewal process summary

    • Renew up to six months in advance
    • On expiry date a Nominet reminder is sent
    • Seven days after expiry a Nominet invoice is sent
    • You can still renew through your registrar at a lower rate
    • Suspended 37 days after expiry date
    • Cancelled 97 days after expiry date
So I assume that unless i sign up for yet another Mr Site package and pay to have the domain transferred then I cant get at the domain for another 97 days?

No the crucial thing here is who owns the domain.

On the whois search who is the registered owner you or Mr Site?

If you then put in a request to transfer it (back to 123reg if you like through your account with them) if Mr Site refuse contact nominet and tell them the whole story they are pretty good at solving issues like this.

If Mr site then yes you can do not a lot but wait but what ever you do do not contact Mr site they are likely to re register it and hold out for money.

One thing to do is register with nominet for an account (it is free) it will list any domains in your name for you and you can move them around to any domain reg you like
I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.

Unfortunately, because you have transferred the domain from 123reg to mrsite, 123reg won't help.

    Have sent you a pm.

that the whole WHOis, im going to ring 123reg shortly as thats who i orginally brought the domain with i believe.

As stated above 123 will not help you your best bets are try to move it back to 123 (do a domain search on 123 (I just did and it asked me if I wanted to move it in) and register a new account) or register an account with nominet and once the domain is linked to you there you can change ISP tag yourself or if you wish cancel the domian from there and it is usually back on the open market in 24 hours or so.

It does cost £12 to change the registrar with nominet JFYI

You sure about that? It costs £12 to transfer ownership (If changing name of owner) (£10 + VAT) I am not sure it costs to transfer ISP Tag.

Yep, it's £10 + VAT as well to change the registrar

Just been and looked seems they have started charging for ISP tag too.

However the rest remains the same

If registered in your name you can request the move elsewhere it is the property of the owner not Mr Site.

If you register an account with nominet with your domain listed you can cancel the domain from there and re register will be available within 48 hours. Risky though as anyone else can register it.
