reclaiming credit card charges

Hi all, I am a newbie and I'm hoping you will be able to help me out.
Back in feb 2010 I sent letters requesting repayment for late fees/over limit fees. All 3 companies I contacted replied with offers, (all a lot lower than I asked to be repaid).
Since then I haven't followed any of them up as I was unsure what to do and kept pushing it under the carpet. Today I finally spoke with the financial ombudsman and was told they couldn't look at my case because the 6 months within which they need to investigate had lapsed.
My question is what steps should i now take??
Any advice you are able to give will be much appreciated.

p.s. the 3 card companies are Egg,Tesco and Marbles.

Unfortunately you now need to start again. Send the letters to the card companies and if you are again not happy with their response then you need to put in a complaint - if you are not happy with their complaint procedure then you can look at taking to the fos (they won't generally get involved until you have gone through the banks complaints procedure). Card companies tend to be a lot more willing to pay out though so hopefully you won't need them.

On the basis that doing the same thing again and expecting a different result is often considered the definition of insanity, unless you have some different arguments, I suggest you contact the companies concerned and ask them if the offer made last year is still available for you to accept.

If you are not prepared to accept the offers still, then as the FOS will not consider your claims for being too long after the companies gave you their final response, then your only real option is to consider legal action.
