1 big shop or pop to the shops daily?

hi...if u are strong willed and/or only take a few £ out with u u could use the daily shop as a way to get out with the baby everyday and get some fresh air......that said if it stays freezing u might do better to stay in the warm and do the online thing

i personally like going to the supermarket and rummaging through the reductions so id go every day....why dont u use your time to do both over the next month or so and see what suits u best

I would say if depends on the type of family you are. Previously I was very much in the little and often camp as our plans would change at very short notice making it difficult to meal plan.

Nowadays life has calmed down a bit so I do a weekly online shop and top up with fresh fruit and veg at the local greengrocer (handily positioned at the end of my road!). I find it suits me because I can keep tabs of what I am spending, add/ delete things from my basket during the week (have an app on my phone). It also suits me because I am prone to impulse buys, I rarely left the supermarket without spending £30 and that would be for just 2 days meals :eek:

Also, I find if I have money in my purse I will spend it, so avoiding the shops as much as possible is working for me.

As for use by dates, I use Ocado and they guarantee freshness for a certain number of days and I have never had a problem with the quality of any of the goods.

It also helps that I don't have the carry the bags from the car to the house (on street parking, so no guarantee I can park near the house) as I usually do the shopping on my own.

One big monthly shop at costco for meat and the like, one ASDA shop for baby milk and foods, a milkman and weekly veg boxes delivered so I don't get tempted by the supermarket (and some variety!)

If I run out of most things, the milkman will bring them.

Hmmm, have done both and now do a bit of both. I'm on my own so tend to do an online shop for tins, packets and cleaning bits every few months and then top up meat and veg as and when. I do meal plan and batch cook when I can but my freezer's not the best!

i go the shops several times a week shop as i go.

I go every couple of days after 3-4 pm when all the reductions hit the shelves, it's very easy to get joints of meat at half price to freeze, and other bargains for dinner that night. The store is pretty local so it's easy for me, I only get what I need so for me it's more economical.

when all the boys are home, it's a big weekly shop PLUS in-between top ups because they just keep eating!

Now we do 'little and often'. Tonight we've been to Sainsbury's because it's near my lipreading class, was surprised how much we spent tbh.

Now I'm not working and have a baby, I've just changed to online shopping with ASDA.

I meal plan for the whole week, work out what we NEED, then order online, with the exception of meat, which I get from the local butcher as it's much better quality and worth the extra!

I attempt to stick to a budget of £40 a week, which needs to cover breakfast, lunch, and dinner for me and OH (which does include 3 or 4 meat meals, as he'll moan if I cook too much vege stuff!).

i used to do a big monthly but changed to weekly and suprisinly enough i have reduced my monthly overall shop by approx £100 weekly i just top up what ive used and ive found it alot easier i now average £45-£50 a week

I find it cheaper to do a huge shop, and then just get necessities, as and when. I haven't done a big shop recently, and it costs me a fortune to go several times a week, to the local shops. I do like my butchers though.
