Car Insurance - Windscreen Claims

I recently organised my car insurance over the internet with Insure It All (via confused). I was called the next day to say there was a problem as I had declared a windscreem claim earlier this year as 'non fault' (i.e. my no claims discount remained unaffected) and they were saying it should be a fault claim (taking the total number of fault claims to 3 on the policy) and as a result the premium would have to go up.
I disagreed and told them i would take my business elsewhere. I then phoned Admiral who said the windscreen claim was 'no problem' so I now have cover with them (cheaper than the first company's amended premium)
Were the first company just trying to get more money from me? Does anyone else have an opinion on this?
thanks

Are you making an assumption on the fact it would reduce your NCD or did they actually say it would?
Fault as far as an insurance company is concerned is defined by if they get 100% of the money they have paid out back or not. Unless you there was a vandle or such that caused the damage to the windscreen and they managed to get the money back from them then under the strictest rule it is a fault claim (but one that doesnt affect NCD) . Whilst this is the case most insurers have a seperate catagory for Windscreen claims a) because of the special rules revolving around them and b) because it saves having to explain things like what insurers consider fault to people as it tends to inflame themAll posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

Claiming for a windscreen shouldnt affect your premiums at all.:staradmin:staradmin:staradmin:staradmin:staradmin0

Astaroth, thanks for your reply. The only reason i mentioned NCD is that most insurance websites ask if the claim affected your NCD as the basis for establishing whether a claim was fault or non-fault. In this instance I declared (quite rightly imo) it as not affecting my NCD when i was getting a quote and purchased the insurance on this basis.0
