advice about a good garage in Woking for MOT and car service

MOT and car service is due shortly and I want to get it done by some good garage in Woking(Surrey area). I wonder if somebody could kinldy advise me about a good one. At the moment, I am considering Fields car centre, featured on goodgarages scheme and GRL garage ( A Bosch service centre). I have used bosch service centres in other areas in the past and they turned out to be good generally. Goodgarages scheme seems like a scam though as it is run by Forte. Any help would be very much appreciated,

A little way out for you, but Deepcut garage (in Deepcut) are very good. Not hugely cheap though.

Deepcut garage is very expensive I found.

I personally always recommend Hall Grove Garage. They do MOT's for me, my mum, my gf, my gf's mum, my friends, and everyone says they have received a good service from them! They do serviceing too and they are always friendly and helpful. Whilst waiting for my mots to be done, there has always been lots of women bringing cars in for servicing and old guys with classics wanting servicing too, which to me shows they are highly trusted and not intimidating.

Hi, I've always got my MOT done at Fields (the last 4 years), never had any problem.

One thing IME is that if the car fails they won't fix it but you'll have to book a new appointment, because they say they just do the MOT and don't have time to investigate.

My car failed a couple of weeks ago and I ended up taking it to Motorcare, more-or-less just across the road (left of Morrisons) to get it fixed, because Fields were busy. They were fine also, problem fixed as requested (get it through MOT) for a reasonable price, £64 (one hour's labour). They do MOTs for £10 off, Fields charge full price.

Thanks very much everybody for your kind attention. I have just returned from work and pleasantly surprised to find so much useful information. Does anybody have experience with GLR garage. I have stronger inclination for it mainly due to the proximity and being a BOSCH certified service.

hi all,

Did a little bit more research on the weekend and thought it might be worth to share it with peeps at the forum in case somebody else finds the information helpful.

Black circles (yeah, the online tyre retailer) arrange full service through local garages ACK (Ripley) and Bellfields auto services (Guildford) for £168 while Fields motors and GLR motors in Woking charge circa £235, it is for a 04 reg Honda Jazz.

I will give ACK and Bellfields a call tomorrow to find out if it is any better to get their service directly. I am not sure how good is the servicing provided though. I am not sure should I go for MOT with them as well. I will come up with update soon

I called both the garages today. Bellfields autos seems a rip off, just asked about replacement of a CV boot (one and half hour labour job) and was quoted £112 (£90 labour and £22 for the boot) and £320 for a full service. ACK quotes £160+vat for full service and £75 for the job (£60 for the labour @ £40 an hour and £15 for the boot).

I am strongly inclined to get MOT done by Fields and any repair work by ACK because Fields charge £70 an hour labour. I might seem naive because I am still learning to deal with this stuff:D. I will welcome any helpful comments at all.

Finally, I have booked MOT and full service with motor care for £40 and £140 respectively. The is quite good given that even council's mot centre charges £56 for MOT and motor care allows you ten working days for free retest. Labour charges are £55 an hour which is still better than their counterparts in the town. Hats off to every one who helped on this forum and specially to thelawnet. :T

Hopefully, somebody googling for similar information might find this thread helpful in future.

Ooo i have a good one for you - Carserv, they are a small mobile firm based in Addlestone but will cover woking and as far down as the other side of Guildford. Extremely knowledgable and well equipped chap comes to you and carries out the work and at a cheaper rate as they dont pay for premises I imagine.

If you don't mind a short womble down the A25 , Tutts of Dorking are damned good and being a family business are great to deal with
