Android Phone - Data Usage Really High

Could well be a badly written app which keeps phoning home unnecessarily? Can you list what apps you have installed and we'll have a quick looksee in case in case any ring any bells?

Quick Settings use mobile data apn setting and turn off mobile data when not in use .

Excellent! I knew i'd get good sensible advice from you lot. I'll install a few monitoring progs and wait with interest to see what it reports. I'll naturally update you if anything interesting is uncovered or I need more advice.

3g watchdog has already proved invaluable. I've un-synced everything in terms of email and diary etc.
Put on watchdog and clicked on the sync button, it shot up, no exaggeration to almost a meg in a few seconds then I turned it off. Sounds like this could well be the issue - just now a case of working out what causes this.
I have 1 calendar (say 50 entries a week) with a shared calendar with the wife (2 or 3 shared commitments a week) and with work (one or two in for the year!).
I also have about 6 emails being directed to my google phone, but 4 of them get 0 emails a week, 1 gets 5, the other gets 10 and I probably get 40 emails a day on my main google email address.

What next to track down this filthy data hog?!

I leave mine syncing all day long. I run 3 email accounts on it, only one of them google, and sync my google calendar.

I send and receive emails with no issues and minimal data use so I doubt it would be your emails/calendar

I'm not going to lie, I miss getting emails pushed to my phone I was thinking of uninstalling a load of progs and seeing what change that had on the usage. As some people have said, my suspicion is a rogue prog which is not coded properly and is sending a load of info somwhere, but where?! and what?!

And under "Accounts and sync", the only thing I have on syncing automatically is my gmail account.
Facebook, HTC Sense, Stocks, Twitter and Weather are all deactivated.
