  • Thats what I suspected but hoped it was software or something I was doing wrong. Oh well we'll get an external drive, that will extend the life of the old lappy.

    The symptoms are highly unusual for a hardware problem - reinstalling windows will prove it one way or the other. from recovery partition if it has one.
