Converting ebooks to pdf

I have an Archos 7 Internet Tablet and would like to read ebooks on it. However, it only accepts pdf format. I have tried to convert using Calibre, but without success.
Most of my ebooks are in epub format for my Sony ereader. I have tried to convert bought ebooks and also free ebooks from the Gutenberg press.
Can anyone suggest a way that I can achieve my aim?

Is it android based? If it is use FBReader.0

There would be little point in selling books in ePub format if they could easily converted to PDF's and therefore freely distributed in breach of copyright. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Use Calibre to convert to MS Reader format thenuse Word to convert that to a PDF.I'm dreaming of a white Christmas.
But, if the white runs out, I'll drink the red.0 -

No - Opera, which might be the problem. There would be little point in selling books in ePub format if they could easily converted to PDF's and therefore freely distributed in breach of copyright.
I have NO intention of distributing anything. All I want to do is to convert ebooks I have got and read them on a different device. Isn't it the same as converting tracks on a bought cd to MP3 to listen to on another device?
The reason I am trying to do this is because I am going over to the States for a month, and am trying to cut down the techie stuff I will be taking with me for entertainment. If I can get ebooks onto my Archos, I do not need the Sony. The Archos will be going as I can use the internet, watch movies, listen to radio and play games. It has plenty of storage space being the 320Gb version. It would be perfect if I could read books on it too.0 -
It depends on the DRM method adopted. Some publishers/formats lock you to one copy on one device-you can't lend it to a friend even to use on the same reader. Others are more flexible, others have no DRM.
Once it's in PDF, it's effectively open to all, so no publisher is going to make it simple to do that for work in copyright. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

Opera can't be the operating system, it will either be android or archos' older operating system I believe based on linux. If its android based FBReader is an app you can install.
On the ebook front you'll need to strip the DRM before converting the book.0 -

Definitely Opera. When I go on line with it, a screen comes up saying "Opera powered".
White Chrismas - I have tried your suggestion of converting to Word and then PDF and it worked.Thank you for your helpful suggestion. A bit long winded but it looks like I can do bulk conversions, and I have a few weeks to go before I go off to the States, so I guess I will be quite busy for a little while.
Anyone any suggestions on how to strip DRM?0 -

Are you able to print them?
If so print to one of the free PDF printers.0
