My Acer Aspire runs on Linux.
Bit baffled but BBC website now closes my browser down, not every time but mainly on the sports pages when there are fancy graphics.
Mentioned this on a Linux website but they became very technical and confused me completely so question is, does anyone have a simple solution for this??
Many thanks

Not without further details of the Linux distro and browser and model of laptop.0

My notebook is an Acer Aspire One - runs on linux but not sure about "distro" - what does that mean and how do I find out?0

Oh and browser is Firefox0

If you've not installed another one it'll be Linpus. I'd consider removing and trying another distro.0

It depends how old it is, but it's ~probably~ running a version of Linux known as Linpus Lite. I'm not too familiar with it, but I believe as supplied it runs in a limited mode, which may mean that it's running a version of Firefox that is old and buggy.
From memory there are a couple of ways round the problem. Either you can change the user interface setting to advanced user mode which should allow you to check for and install updates.
Another (IMO better) option is simply to ditch Linpus and install the Ubuntu Netbook Edition, which means that you will have a completely up-to-date OS which is fully Open Source (Linpus is not, IIRC), and which automatically gets all of the security releases for Firefox when they are issued.0 -
+1 here for Ubuntu Netbook Remix.0

Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

now now everyone keep it easy
got to take into account the OP has stated none technical so if we are honest Ubuntu Netbook Remix is probably the best bet due to the extra support they can get from the ubuntu forums, ok it will not be the fastest but should be fast enough
http://www.ubuntu.com/netbook
http://www.ubuntu.com/netbook/get-ubuntu/download - all you will need to sort this is a 2gb usb pen drive and all the instructions on what you need to do is on the siteDrop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)0
