The Warburton's bread is awful - very dry, almost impossible to make sandwiches with it as it falls apart. The Genius loaves are much better - more like real bread.
BTW, my husband phoned up Warburton's to complain about the dry loaf in case it was just a one-off - and they are sending him some money-off vouchers.
For info, the Warburton's GF loaf is £2 at Asda.0 -
Homemade GF cakes are better than the real thing - give it a go. So much better value than buying them. Doves farm is good, or if you are Coeliac and can get it on prescription any of the white mixes will do the job well.
In fact its my birthday this week and I have to take in cakes for work - I always cook them all GF with Doves farm so I can have a variety , and no-one ever notices.
I bake GF food all the time as my DH is coeliac, I've found a Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall recipe for Lemon Trickle Mash Cake which is absolutely divine - I make it for all the family. It does not have any flour in it, but has cold mashed potato and ground almonds! Either google "lemon trickle mash cake" or pm me for the recipe.
I don't think you will be disappointed!!

Marks & sparks do an excellent gluten free range - their seeded bread makes very good toast and the chocolate cake is fabulous (I can't eat it anymore because my surgeon has recommended I avoid all dairy as well as all gluten).
The Warburtons is disappointing but fine for toast - Artisan breads do a sample pack, but again not brilliant.
Sainsburys do pretty decent gluten and dairy free baguettes, tea cakes and rather lovely chocolate brownies!
And I also recommend Phil Vickery's gluten free baking books.
(spot the person who has been gluten free for a long time and loves cooking!)0 -
Im slightly concerned reading this post - my mums just brought me two loaves of Warburtons bread. Has anyone tried the new tesco gf bread? I also never knew M & S did a GF range, I shall have a look next time - but I can imagine it being rather expensive!0

MMMM the chocolate cake in M & S is lovely but it is £2.99 they also do a lemon cake and w/f fruit slab.
Can recommend the Doves Farm G/F self raising flour - usually cake mix 6oz s/r flour, 6oz sugar, 6 oz butter/marg or Vitalite for dairy free and 3 eggs. Can add a little milk if you want but nobody notices that thay are wheat free at my kids w/f parties.
Sorry not tried the Warburtons range as my local bakery produces a spelt and honey loaf for us once a week !0 -

The warburtons bread its nice toasted but it does crumble and its difficult to get out of the toaster.

ooh Julietiff- would you mind giving me the recipe for that & is it easy to make?
I found M & S had a good range of gluten free food just before xmas but last week when I went in, the selection was pretty rubbish although my son does like the chocolate cake & the sausages. Re Warburtons, if any one does want to try it,I think Warburtons will send you money off coupons if you register with them. Hey I just stumbled across this post whilst googling gluten free warburtons. I was diagnosed as coeliac 2 years ago. One thing I have found is that although there is a wide range of gluten free specialist stuff available, its also suprising what stuff on the shelves also is and at a fraction of the price! Am not sure if this will help anyone or I should post somewhere else but Ill list some things anyway with some prices:
tesco's own corn flakes/frosted flakes/honey nut flakes - £1.28
weight watchers chicken tikka masala curry/lemon risotto
tescos own chicken tikka masala curry + bhajis
tesco finest burgers + 100% beef burgers
knorr stock pots ( I use them to make risotto)
tesco golden vegetable savoury rice - 54p
finest chicken chasseur (for a treat) - £4.50
hellmans mayonnaise
sweeties - twirls/buttons/caramel nibbles.
Most people probably know this but there be the odd few as nigh eve as me that when first diagnosed was buying the 3/4 quid bottles of mayo and specialist choccy!
I am forever finding new things so ill keep posting, hopefully might help someone, especially at first! x :A0
