Argos!!!!!!

Hi Moneysavers,
I am new on this website and signed up primarily to vent my frustration at Argos.

On the 16th October I found a house i wanted to rent having lived with my mam with my 3 yr old son since he was born.
On the 17th October i put in an order for Argos for;
A television
A television stand
A coffee table
A 2 piece sofa
A washing Machine
A fridge freezer
A bedroom furniture set
A chest of drawers
And 2 blanket boxes.
My order total was in excess of £1600, which i had to put on a credit card.
On the 19th October the coffee table arrived
On the 23rd October my tenancy began and i started moving all my stuff into my new home.
On the 24th October my washing machine was meant to be delivered. It went to the wrong address, i rang up and was told that i would have to wait a week until it could be delivered again.
On the 1st November my washing machine was meant to be delivered again. It went to the wrong address yet again. I was told i would have to wait ANOTHER week before they could deliver it again.
On 2nd November my fridge freezer was delivered successfully.
On 8th November my Washing machine finally got to my house.
So i am still waiting for a television, a television stand, a bedroom furniture set a sofa, a chest of drawers and 2 blanket boxes.
When i ordered my bedroom furniture it stated 7 days for delivery so why am i still sleeping on the floor 25 nights later?
Why hasn't my TV arrived, also stating 7 days for delivery?
Why hasn't my Tv stand arrived stating 2 days for delivery? etc etc.

Today, i recieved a letter saying that i will now have to wait until after the 8th December until any of my other bits and pieces are delivered.
Bearing in mind i made my order on 17th October by the time they deliver it (if they deliver it) i will have slept on the floor for 54 nights.
Oh, and they refuse to deliver anything they do have in stock until the full delivery is ready.

I am really annoyed with Argos. Also i have spent just over £15 in phone calls chasing up wrong deliveries and trying to find out what has happened to the items i paid for nearly a month ago. I have been passed from pillar to post with people promising me delivery dates and then nothing arriving or items being delivered to the totally wrong address.
I hope no one else is having as many problems as i am.
I have learnt my lesson and they are never getting any of my hard earned cash again!

The convenience of Argos goes up in smoke when they don't actually have the items you bought. Theres no guarantee the 'delivery in 7 days' stuff in the catalogue is true.

I have not had major problems ordering smaller items from Argos, but clearly the large items + whitegoods are a different thing altogether. Surely a separate enterprise to the normal Argos goods.

I had a similar (though not quite as bad) experience a few months back, ordering a fridge, a washing machine and a bed. Washer arrived immediately, bed arrived within 2 weeks (they did give me correct date), but I had to chase the fridge for flippin' ages. I got letters saying they had huge demand (boo-hoo), and couldn't get this fridge for weeks. I phoned up, told them I would cancel and buy elsewhere if they don't have it ready to deliver. The person on the line went away for few minutes, and came back having magically found me a fridge, and asked when I wanted it (!). Hmm.

A well-written complaint letter to them might get you some vouchers and/or some vague apology. But, for the amount you spent, Argos should be treating you much better.

Could you not get a refund for the items you havent received and try and get them elsewhere? How come it is going to take them so long for them to get them?

did you buy them at a distance (e.g, post / online / over telephone)? If so you are covered under Distant Selling Regs and can cancel orders or return goods if the seller does not fulfill its promises (however unlikely they may be).

  • hi folks, Thanks for your replies.
I have rang them again demanding to know where my stuff is, they now say that they are waiting for one componant (the second part of a sofa), however as i only paid for one delivery, they will only send it in one delivery. They won't even let me pay an extra £4.95 so they can get the stuff they have in stock to me now!
I might try the cancellation technique that barrymoney suggested, it might get me somewhere, I truely am sick to the back teeth of them.
I did order it online. What are these Distance Selling Regs?
Also, does anyone have an address for Argos customer services? They are going to get a strongly worded letter from me!

    Thanks in advance

Dont Argos it....shop for it! ;-)
  • Dist selling regs state you have to receive goods or services for the company to take a payment or i think you have 28 days to cancel, request, a refund send stuff back and tell them where to go. I've found it a good line for a debt I didn't owe it was wiped off immediately. Of course if you never receive the good and here they have let you down on delivery you have the right to demand a full refund within 7 days or you will go down the small claims track.

Have a look here for more info on the regualtions

They are very good, as most companies struggle to comply with them, giving you the ability to reject goods for being treated shoddily.
