Sloppy PIN security at MBNA

Horrified to read the report in today's Sunday Times about how it's possible to get a new PIN via MBNA's automatic telephone service with minimal security checks.

Apparently this is "to reduce inconvenience for people who forget their PIN". Utter rubbish!

Is there another provider which refuses to compromise security for the benefit of the careless?

I'd like change my card at once.

Cashplus used to send a paper printed pin but now you can dial in at anytime to get your pin. A customer service rep at Cap1 told me mine over the phone once

The CS Agents at Cap One have access to our PIN numbers on their screen?

yeah I got a new card (last one was stolen) and I rang up to see if I was getting a new pin, the rep said "Oh no you can continue to use 1234"

Upon asking he said they can see your pin!!

I am assuming you have replaced you ractual pin with 1234 for the example and that you don't really have a card with 1234 as the pin number.

Now that IS poor security. I hope it's not universal.

Unless you want to use your Credit Card for a Cash Withdrawal at an ATM, an alternative is that you can always get yourself a Chip & Signature Card.
