Washing - fewer tablets?

I have a stock of clothes detergent tablets I'm using up. I also have some Sainsbury's value detergent, which I think is great.
The boxes the tablets come in (some Tesco, some Sainsbury's) say to use two tablets. I live in a softwater area.
Assuming that I'm washing stuff like clothes and sheets with no stains just ordinary mild sweat, do I actually need two tablets? Has anyone here tried doing their laundry with just one tablet?

When I used to use tablets I only ever put one in each wash, and it was always fine. For tiny loads I used to use half a tablet, but I am tight ; ).0

I always always use just one tablet. Sometimes I use 1/2 a tablet. Which workes fine on items that arent very soiled.
The companies always want you to use more than you need.Happy days

Even on a full load I think you could get away with using half a tablet. Try it on some tea-towels first and see how clean they come out. I think you'll find that you feel like you've been robbed all this time......0

Another vote for one tablet, even on quite big loads it always gets the stains out.0

my clothes were always stained with white soap marks, so following advice on here I switched to one tablet and it does the job.0

Thanks, everyone. It looks like I've been throwing money away.0

A good idea is to buy washing soda, and add 1/2 a cupful to each wash in addition to your solitary tablet.. Gets your clothes clean/and removes stains. Costs about 49p a bag, so is very economical compared to washing detergents.0

and your find as well the'll be some washes that need no tablets - ok i found out by mistake cos i forgot to put one in once But since i get to every 10th wash or so and use none and still get clean washing0 -
I live in a hard water area and still only use one tablet. Anything stained gets pre-treated anyway, so it doesn't need a lot to get the job done. Washing comes out just fine.0
