  • Some toolbars and Smilie programs are also conduits to malware.

thanks. couldn't connect to internet to download malwarebytes so had to restore to factory settings. just wish i knew how contracted virus

Routes in with good AV in place

    -possible out of date browser
-out of date virus definition files
-out of date windows update security patches
-infected USB if 'autorun' feature of windows has not been disabled
-dodgy email attachment you've opened and given permission to run by clicking on
-you have downloaded and tried to install a fake version of some legitimate software that has had malware bundled in with it

why is it I've never ever had one, and others get some / lots / etc ? We run the exact same hard / soft kit .. .. .. the only difference is the person and their individual diligence / usage

i have visited some dodgy sites from time to time in the past and have never had a virus or an std

this virus was on the wifes netbook who doesn't visit any dodgy sites as far as i am aware
