Unable to connect to internet

My PC picked up 11 bugs last night. I cleared them through Malwarebytes. Since then i have been unable to connect to the internet. I have tried a system restore but have only one previous restore oint. I assume the bugs deleted/hid the rest. The restore fails with an unexpected error.
Everything says i'm connected to the internet so doesn't allow a repair etc. I have ran a connection diagnostic on my wireless card. It comes back with the wireless router/AP for your network is working. but your computer is not able to use an IP address to connect to the internet.
Could i have changed the IP address somehow.
i'm using Vista Home Basic on a DEll Inspiron 1525. I was looking at a reinstall but didn't want to incase i got the same error etc.
Any suggestions please

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -

Hi,
has your firewall maybe decided to block the IP address?0 -
or, more like it's trying to connect through a proxy, in your browser, internet options, and untic the connect via a proxy option......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
