Yep, same here. Luckily I do have Egg Money Manager so I can see my balances, just can't log in to do anything.

(I needed to check because it turns out half of us haven't been paid our October wages!)

    Seems to be intermittent.

I just tried a few minutes ago, and got the error message, but tried again two minutes later and it worked perfectly. It was slower than normal, but not disasterously so and I completed my transactions an logged out no problem.

My Egg has stopped working now...

But I did google "Barclays basic access" and was able to log in through that link. It was even more simple than the normal basic access - just gives the mini-statement that you can get at a cashpoint.

  • I have managed to log in using the basic access; too lazy to reach for my card and reader. At least something works!

How do you do this? Even using the "Basic Access" thing, I still have to use the card reader to get in

When on Barclays' Secure Banking page, click on the (3rd) link that says: "Personal/Premier customers: no PINsentry card reader? Login using Basic Access".

My husband just logged on with PINsentry and 'twas fine.

Ah, right. I was puzzled because I didn't have that link at all, and I have now got to the bottom of why.

The Barclays site is one of those that assumes you're located in the USA if you use the SeaMonkey browser, and gives a completely different Online Banking screen which omits the link you mention. This is a very annoying SeaMonkey bug which the developers (being American) can't replicate (because they really are in the USA) and therefore see no reason to fix.

However, even if I use a different browser, logging in without PINsentry still requires a Debit Card. I have no Debit Card on my Barclays account, so I still have no way of logging in without using PINsentry. This is a Barclays bug!
