ebay unpredictable

Sometimes ebay can be so unpredictable.

Some of my usual good selling items that attract several bidders have no bids and finish tomorrow (several watchers but that doesn't always end up with bids on my items). yet other things i have struggled with in the past went up this evening for 10 days and some have bids already.

Then yesterday I had a good evening when usually Friday is dismal for me and I even sent a whole load of second chance offers and every single one was accepted and paid for immediately.

Sometimes it is really weird

I am having a weird time at the moment too. Since Christmas I have sold every item I have listed, at really good prices. (only 10 in total, but a 100% rate is unusual for me).

At the same time though, I have only received 1 feedback - I usually get about 70-80% of people give feedback within a week or so of posting the parcels out.

I realise that I am dealing with small numbers and so should expect a bit of randomness, but I do feel a little uneasy....

And I had 2 problems in one day yesterday - 'parcel lost' and 'item not fitting can i return' - and my sales have dried up so no money in my paypal to refund :(

Well, my Ebay account is doing really well at the moment. Large proportion of what I am listing is selling, however, finding that buyers are holding off bidding until the last minute.

It's called 'variance' and is the bane of the poker player's life.

Thank you, that is probably why I can't get my head round games like poker then. :(

I like nice steady statistics that can be used long term to show a pattern.

The problem is that all statistics that show a consistent long term pattern will show very abnormal patterns in the short term.

If you toss a fair coin a million times the heads/tails will almost certainly be very close to 50%.

OTOH, if you got 1000 people to each toss it ten times there would be a very good chance that you would find someone who had all heads or all tails.

    Such is life.
