Flight to Alabama, Mobile Airport - advice needed

My daughter wants to visit her friend and needs a flight to an airport called Mobile in Atlanta. Never having been to the USA and having dodgy geographical knowledge I would appreciate some help. I suppose the flight would be from London, we live in the South West, and all I have come up with is around £380 from Gatwick with one stop - at Houston I think. Can we do any better? Can it be done cheaper by changing somewhere else? She wants to go this month for 1-2 weeks, flight dates not too important. Any help very much appreciated. Thanks

You 100% sure it's not Mobile Alabama??

Depending when you go, it's not a bad deal for a provincial airport. You'll pay £250-£300 into NY, or Atlanta, so to get a connecting flight onwards for £100 return is not horrific.

You could save a few beans by looking at a Gatwick - Newark return, and then scouring through the American low cost carriers for an onward flight. Don't reckon it'll be worth your time though, and be glad to know if you can prove me wrong!

There are cheap deals available to Birmingham, Alabama which is only a few hours north of Mobile.

I haven't been to Mobile for a coupla years - last time I was there I saw a young boy get his leg ripped off by a shark....

I think you have got a very good fare. Choice of airlines are Delta through Altlanta, Continental via Houston or US Airways via Charlotte, American (/BA/AA) via Houston.

We drove from New Orleans through Mobile to San Destin. We really enjoyed our stay at the Hilton in San Destin. Lovely beaches, a massive outlet mall and great seafood restaurants.
  • Would you recommend any particular airline/route or are they all much the same?
