Comet price warning

Options
On a whim we went into Comet today to buy something. I quite like a haggle, so asked if something could be done about the price. The chap looked online, and it was a whopping TWENTY QUID cheaper, so I asked him to price-match from their own website. It brought it down from $70 to $50.

I strongly suggest using their ipads instore to check their online prices before you buy!

Since when did Comet/West Yorks change their currency?

  • Wouldn't it have been an idea to check before you went to buy?

shock horror, companies charging different prices online to in their shops, its like they think they have more overheads to cover in a retail space or something.
    Bloody con merchants.

ok - we went on a whim (thought I made that clear) so couldn't price-check, and I have an american laptop. Not that it matters.

Well, it does, because if you start talking, on a British site, about buying things in Britain for $x, without explanation, people are going to think you've got a screw loose.

A $ is not the same as a £ and only an idiot is going to arbitrarily assume that someone means one when they say the other. rolleyes.gif

It's perfectly possible to set up a laptop with a US keyboard to type '£' and any sensible person would do just that before trying to communicate about money on a British site.

Ok - can someone tell me how to do that please?
  • The following is for a computer running on XP, but if you are using Vista or Windows 7, it should be similar.

Open "Control panel", and you will see an icon marked "Regional and language" and click on this.
One of the tabs will be "Languages". Click on this one, then on "Details"
This will then show the keyboard options available.
Double click on the one shown as "English United Kingdom", then "Apply" and "OK"

I'm not 100% sure, but you may have to restart you computer for the changes to take effect.
The £ key should then be above the number 3 (where the # is shown).
The " and @ symbols will also be swopped to the same positions as on a UK keyboard. ( " will be above the number 2, and @ will be above the ')

Comet will always price match their website, we got the 10% web discount on the same price dishwasher yesterday just by asking them to check it at point of sale.
