Do you have to tell car insurance company if repair is paid for by other party?

Husbands car was hit in the carpark at work, the person driving has admitted it and said they will pay for the repairs, not to bother with insurance.
Should my husband report this to his insurance company? Does he have to? If he advises the insurance for information only and they make a note of it will it affect his future renewals? (the reason I ask this is because about 8 years ago someone went down the side of my car with somthing sharp when it was parked, I told the insurance but never claimed - yet it was down on my policy for years and it affected my preium on the next renewal)
.
If it goes through the other persons insurance will it affect his insurance premiums (husbands not the other persons)
Also he is going to need a hire car for about 3 days whilst the work is done.
I feel it would be a lot better letting the insurance company deal with it, but it the other party is insisting they will pay.
I`m also concerned about him getting the money to pay for the repairs and hire car. No way am I letting him pay for the repairs / hire car etc and then asking the other bloke for the money.
Not really sure how we should go about this please can anyone help?
Thanks

He has to inform his insurance company. Full stop. Its in the contract of every insurance company.
Insurance companies use a central data base and imagine if you crashed yor car in the future, you were at fault, you kill someone
you injure others, car is a write off, you claim and the insurance company turns your claim down because of non disclosure. Then what
His premiums may or may not rise, some companies do, some dont, but you just have to accept that.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

But how would the insurance company ever know? If neither party have reported it how would they ever find out?0 -

The other bloke won't have consudered any of the other costs when suggesting he will pay for the repairs.
Claim directly off the third party insurer. If the driver doesn't want to lose his NCD he can always reimburse his insurer after the job is complete.
As already advised, you have no option but to inform your insurer. And you may want them involved if you encounter any problems getting this sorted.0 -
Thanks all. Apart from the repair and hire car are there any other cost we might not have thought about? The other driver hasn`t given my husband his details and he works with him so need to keep it reasonably friendly.
Do we just tell the insurance - it is for information only! if we then need to involve them is it ok as we have reported it, not sure how all this works as not dealt with many claims and no one has offered to pay before.
Just want the best way to deal with it (which I know is insurance but can`t make him I don`t suppose if he doesn`t want to)0 -
Get a quote from the bodyshop you want to use, include the hire car, give the final figure to your husbands mate, if he gives you a bundle of £10 notes, you can decide then.
If he doesn't, it's an easier choice.0 -
Thanks mikey72, good idea. But we still have to inform insurance don`t we?0

Your insurer will certainly insist you inform them yourself if you have been in an accident. If you don't inform them they will probably not know anything about it otherwise, and cannot increase your premiums.
However, if they find out, (?) they will be upset they haven't been charging you more.
Do you think the other party will be informing his insurers?0 -

They'd never find out if no one tells them.;)0 -

Maybe we should wait until Monday until hubby sees this bloke again and gives him the approx cost from the body shop and informs him plus there will be a hire car (he lives in the other direction so can`t take him to and from work). When he gets an idea of the cost will judge what to do.
Many seem to recomment we tell the insurance - incase of future claims!! if they ever find out we will have invalid insurance, don`t want this..but don`t want increased premiums either. Think I need a large glass of wine.. hubby is oblivious to it all..bloke has said he will pay so as far as he is concerned thats the end of it..doesn`t realise its all got to be sorted, booked in, payed for etc0
