T Mobile Miss Selling

I decided to buy a dongle for my lap top as my new place does not currently have an internet connection.

I popped into T Mobile, I was told the price was £35.00 which I accepted.

Whilst arranging the purchase, the salesman asked me to sign a documet which was an Insurance application. I read through it and told him I did not want to buy insurance for a dongle. He advised me it was included free of charge and was not optional.

I completed the purchase and asked him to confirm again that the insurance was free as it showed on the receipt as costing £9.99. He told me it was definately free and I told him that I would check up on this and if this was not the case I would cancel.

I looked into it and he had charged me £9.99 for insurance for a dongle that costs the grand total of £19.99!

I've just been back into the shop and a salesman tried to blag me that it was free. I referred to the receipt and that the instructions offer insurance as an option.

The manager was called who again tried to blag me and eventually went to the back to speak to the original salesman. He then returned and told me the salesman had discounted the cost of the dongle by £5.00 in return for me paying in effect £5 for insurance. They eventually agreed to refund me the £9.99.

I pointed out to the salesman that the sale was wrong for so many reasons eg I expressly refused insurance, was asked to sign the application without reading it, the cover and especially exclusions were not pointed out to me etc etc. I also pointed out that the cover was not very comprehensive to which he said it's very wide cover. He and the other staff standing next to me (Who were just selling insurance to another customer and I'd heard them tell them it covers absolutely everything) were acutely embarrassed when I pointed out the major flaws in the theft and loss cover eg the item had to be on your person or a locked room at the time and must involve the use of force so no pick pocket cover

The manager told me it was a new member of staff but I got the impression it's something they do to all customers hence them all initially trying to fob me off that it was part of the package.

It amazes me that they actually sell an insurance policy costing £9.99 for something that only costs £19.99.

I'm very tempted to report it to the FSA as it appeared to be something they do all the time
