Hi there,

As you may know from other posts I am in the process of buying Granite worktops.

So far these guys seem to offer the best prices. Moreover the ask for no cash up front everything paid upon completion. Seems hard to argue with.

However I's still like to hear of any first hand experiences other forum members have had of them.

Thanks

Baz

Even suggestions as to how I can check them out would be welcome.

They are offering the best price and insist on payment upon completion but this is partly what worries me. If it seems to good to be true it usually is.

They don't seem to have an office in the UK and can only show you samples ahead of the actual fitting. Given the huge natural variation in granite this does leave room for disapontment.

The fact you are having this reservations with no prompting from any of us probably tells you all you need to know.

I plan to buy around 6m of granite in the summer and I will be visiting as many workshops/showrooms I can before I make a final decision. Samples are next to useless. Remember, price isn't everything.

I appreciate what you are saying, but it wouldn't be a on this board if I didn't like saving a bob or two.

But you are right I want value not necessarily the lowest price.

Truth is though I have had no first hand recommendations for any of the of their more expensive alternatives either so its not certain that spending more cash will yield a better result.

The domain was registered in August 2010 to a UK individual. The phone number on the website (an 0845 number, no UK landline number given) is the same number given by "The Granite fitters." Their domain, granitefitters.co.uk, is registered to a company and was first registered in 2005.
I'd be hesitant, especially without a recommendation from a third party you can trust.

I had granite worktops fitted 2 years ago, through a Birmingham based company recommended by the local company refitting my kitchen. They came out first to make plywood templates in the place the worktops would be, then returned with the actual worktops about a week later, cut from granite matching samples we had been given.
The day after they were installed, we had a stain on the worktop from a silicone base on an item we had left standing on it overnight. I couldn't get rid of it and phoned the company to ask how to tackle it. They sent their fitters out that day (a 30+ mile trip), who were able to get the oil based stain out at no cost to me. They weren't the cheapest I'm sure, but with service like that, we had no reason to complain.
