Have to say I agree with Dors01.

Your (OP) comment about it "only being 30psi" is ridiculous.

It may be 30psi sitting cold at the side of the road, but running hot at 70-80mph there will be a hell of a lot more pressure than that.

Then you have to factor in all the bumps, flexing and other stresses that the tyre has to cope with in normal conditions.

And as previously stated, you don't know what, if any damage has been caused internally or to the structure of the tyre.

Lots of things are done in other countries, doesn't make it safe or advisable here.

Just take some spares with you ;)

No, there won't be much more than that. A few psi extra if it hit a bump but that's all.

It is as you suggest the flex and stretch that is the issue, along with the heat cycle all tyres go through.

I'm on the fence with this 1 even given it's a resurrected thread.

If I got a slow puncture and found the culprit screw or nail, then yes, I think now I would give it a try.
Would I buy and carry round a kit?, no I wouldn't.;)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

I'd rather use the plug type as opposed to the string
We use these for repairing punctures when 'off the beaten track'
They work very well and tend to last the remainder of the tyre's life

Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.

Just get it professionally patched for a tenner. You can also rebalanced the tyre as well which tyres need doing from time to time

Really? I always thought it was considerably higher.

No, it's not a linear equation, ie, if a tyre in deformed enough by cornering of a bump, and it's internal volume reduces by 10%, it does not mean an increase of 10% in pressure.;)

Even if it did you would only see a rise from say 30psi to 33psi, even when heated. That would still remain within the range of normal pressure variation. I think the stress load is much more important, along with heat generation and there the opposite is true, to low a pressure will cause a significant rise in temp due to over flexing.

Another vote for this. Less than £3 for the kit, including tools, 5 strings, delivered. First tyre done last year, and after 4 months, it's still fine. Second one, (haven't had a puncture for years, then I get two), a couple of weeks ago. Didn't even need to take it off the car to repair it. Twenty minutes, no messing around going to a tyre fitter, and the cars back on the road. Only niggle is the tools bend a bit pushing the strings in.
